(The older kit,M258, cannot be used on the face.)The procedures for using the M258A1 kit varyslightly depending on whether or not the face isbeing decontaminated. Wipe the skin for 1 minute.5. Deposit the wipe in a suitable place.6. Pull out one Decon 2 wipe packet. Crushthe enclosed glass ampules between thethumb and fingers.7. Deposit the wipe in a proper container.Facial Skin DecontaminationA modified procedure is used to decontaminatethe face. That is because of the protective mask, which should be donned immediately when adecontaminating agent is detected or suspected. The facial decontamination procedure is asfollows:STEPS 1-3. Same as for general use.4. Hold your breath, close your eyes, and liftthe mask from your chin. While continuing tohold your breath, wipe your face and the insideof your mask quickly with the Decon 1. Disposeof the wipe. Reseal, clear, and check the mask.STEPS 5-9. Same as for general use.10. Same as step 4 except use Decon 2 andwipe only the face and not the mask.11. Deposit the wipe in a proper container. The M258A1 kit is an improvement over theold M258 kit in that it provides for three completeskin decontamination and can be used on the faceand interior of the mask.
