It maybe transmitted by anyappropriate means of communication and should be ina format, language, or style familiar to both theoriginator and the recipients.An operational directive usually consists of a basicoperation order (OPORD) and its supporting annexes.It may be contained in a series of general operating(OPGEN) or operational tasking (OPTASK) messages.Type of operational directives in common use bythe Navy include operational plans (OPLAN); OPORD,OPGEN, and OPTASK messages; warning orders; andletters of instruction.
