If you must stack unpackaged masks, theyshould not be stacked more than five high. Youmust also take measures to prevent stowage ofheavy material on the stack.By following proper handling, cleaning,and stowage procedures, you can expect themask to provide designed protection for 5 to10 years.MCU-2/P Protective MaskThe MCU-2/P protective mask is designedto provide full protection and is intendedto replace other previously used masks, in-cluding the Mk V and M17A1. This newmask has improved performance and storagecharacteristics. It provides protection againsttactical concentrations of chemical and bio-logical agents, toxins, and radiological falloutparticles. The MCU-2/P mask also accom-modates the use of the tri-service/ NATOcanisters.The MCU-2/P protective mask (fig. 6-5)is built with a silicone rubber facepiece.Features include two voicemitters; a drinkingtube; a flexible lens that permits the use ofbinoculars, gunsights, and other optical equip-ment; and the option to put the filter canisteron either side. The mask can be worn overapproved mask-compatible spectacles, whichcan be ordered through your medical depart-ment using DD Form 771.
